Manawapōpōre is the Māori name for South Mavora Lake. There are also other spelling variations, such as Manawapore and Manawapora. The lake is 2.4 km long and surrounded by open tussock land and beech forest. It is situated in the Mavora Lakes Park about 60 km from Lake Te Ana-au (Lake Te Anau).
