Murky waters call for filter feeding friends, and that’s where kākahi excel – working tirelessly to reduce algae and sediment in our lakes, rivers and wetlands. The health of a kākahi population helps to gauge ecosystem health, but their population is in decline and faces extinction if juveniles are not replenished.

Join community volunteers in their hunt for juvenile kākahi in Lake Wairarapa as part of a longitudinal citizen science study led by freshwater ecologist, Amber McEwan, and supported by Greater Wellington biodiversity advisor, Micheline Evans.
